Easy Ways to Meet People in Uptown Dallas – Part 2

The first article I wrote on this topic covered ways to meet people that are IN YOUR APARTMENT, like getting your mail, talking to the concierge, signing up for social events, etc. This second part covers going outside of your apartment to explore some other ways.

Starbucks
The Starbucks on McKinney Avenue and the Starbucks on Cole Street are two great places to meet new people or gather with friends you already have. The one on Cole is the second largest Starbucks in Dallas, and is always packed with young professionals. Want to work while you sip on your latte? Starbucks also has free Wi-Fi, and outdoor seating. It’s perfect for grabbing an Espresso Macchiato and a muffin while you mingle.

WAKA
You can get into sports clubs and meet a lot of people. I’ve got a great suggestion to help. Try the WAKA Kickball social club. There are plenty of Uptown Dallas residents who are also recent grads that love this league. It’s an easy way to get to know others in a sports-type way without having to be athletic. Or if you are even less athletic, there is the Dallas Dodgeball League. They are always looking for new members. The average age for someone involved in these leagues is low twenties.

Get a dog
You might be surprised at how well this works. Dog owners attract other dog owners just by nature. Even people who don’t own a dog will stop and ask about yours. The cuter the dog, the better! There are so many people in Uptown Dallas with dogs that many, many restaurants not only welcome you to bring your dog, some even have staff on duty to watch and play with your dog while you grab a bite to eat or drink a beer. Mutt’s Cantina is the perfect example, with a beer garden style lawn and dog parks for both large and small breed dogs. There are over one hundred restaurants in Dallas that welcome and cater to dogs and their owners, the perfect spots to meet other canine lovers. Dogs are like magnets for conversation!

Gyms in Uptown Dallas
There are several club gyms in Uptown Dallas, such as Trophy Fitness, located at the corner of Howell Street and Vine, one block west of McKinney Avenue. There is also LA Fitness, whose Uptown Dallas location is also a Signature level facility, located on North Haskell Avenue, as well as Gold’s Gym located on McKinney Avenue and Fairmount Street. Trophy Fitness and Gold’s are very hot places to meet people and are lower key. Remember, no ear buds. You want people to talk to you, and they won’t if they think you can’t hear them. You are doing this for social reasons, not just for your health (although that’s important, too).

Attend Key Events

  • Love Cures All– Love Cures All is an event hosted by the Hotel ZaZa that raises money and awareness for cancer treatment and prevention. It is a formal event, so dust off that tux and show you have a heart by participating in one of Dallas’ premier fundraising events.
  • City Lights– City Lights is a holiday event that happens in mid-November. It’s when the holiday lights go up, starting in downtown and making its way to Uptown Dallas. If holiday lights don’t put you in the spirit, I don’t know what to tell you. Have some more eggnog and come at it again.
  • Wagyu & Wine– Wagyu & Wine is Capital Grille’s event to promote their famous Wagyu beef burgers. Don’t feel bad, I had to look it up, too. Wagyu beef is ranked as the best of the best when it comes to beef. It comes from Japanese bred cows that are grass fed for a specific number of days, free-range and is considered very high-end in the culinary world. As any foodie will tell you, this would be a great place to meet other foodies who share your passion for eating delicacies. Oh, and there is wine, which always makes meeting new people easier.
  • Uptown Dallas Food Tour– The Uptown Dallas Food Tour is located in the West Village district of Uptown Dallas. This walking food tour is an opportunity to try some really tasty food from local eateries while touring Dallas’ number one social hot spot, Uptown Dallas. If your feet give out before you’re full, cop a squat on the McKinney Avenue Trolley and ride to your next destination. As Big Al Mack likes to say, “Ain’t no shame in it.” The Trolley is another great place to meet people, and see many new faces all in the comfort of heated and air-conditioned vintage Trolley cars.

KATY TRAIL
There are always people jogging on the Katy Trail, but the peak times are early mornings and in the evenings. Running at peak times increases your chances of meeting new people. Run by yourself or even better, join a running group to meet and socialize with more people. Also, hang around the Katy Trail Ice House where free water is on the side for runners, cyclists, skaters and walkers… everyone stops there. The Katy Trail is also an awesome place to walk your dog. Statistics have proven that more people will talk to you if you have a dog. Hey, it’s science. How can you argue with science?

Vino 100
Vino 100 is a wine bar that has a GREAT vibe. Vino 100 also hosts events every night from Sunday thru Friday, including Happy Hour with half price glasses, featured Wine enthusiasts and entrepreneurs, as well as twenty percent off all bottles on Sundays. If you love to drink and buy wine, all while meeting some of Uptown’s hottest singles, then Vino 100 is the place for you. Not that you would work and drink at the same time, but if you are so inclined, Vino’s also has free Wi-Fi. No need for Match.com if you’re hanging out here, though. Might look good on your Foursquare to be Mayor, however.

Summary
Whatever your style may be, if your goal is to meet new people you may have to step outside your comfort zone just a bit and try different ways, such as the ones mentioned here. These are tried and true methods of meeting new people. Making new connections and social networking are all a part of the very socially-minded Uptown Dallas lifestyle, which means most, if not all other residents here are out doing exactly the same thing: looking to mingle. Whether you’re looking for a soul mate, a friendly double date, or just a place to congregate, trying these suggestions will set you on the path to meeting fun and exciting people and making new friends in
