Grant’s direct answer
The Dallas North Tollway connects several of North Texas’s most important employment and lifestyle districts.
My number-one overall choice is Legacy West. Frisco and The Star provide newer apartments and strong northern value. Addison offers a more central position. Grandscape is an emerging near-Tollway entertainment district.
1. What are the best apartment hot spots along the Dallas North Tollway in 2026, and which area should rank first overall?
The Star is approximately several miles north in Frisco and combines Dallas Cowboys facilities, restaurants, events, hotels, offices, and apartments.
Twelve Cowboys Way provides a true high-rise and strong walkability.
The Star works well for younger professionals and corporate relocations who want newer Frisco living and a mixed-use environment.
2. Why is Legacy West one of the strongest places to live along the Tollway, and what type of renter fits it best?
Shops at Legacy sits across the Tollway and was once the principal hotspot.
Its energy has declined as Legacy West has grown. The Kincaid at Legacy remains a charming high-rise with attractive pricing and stable staff in my experience.
Do not treat Shops at Legacy and Legacy West as equally active.
4. What are the best high-rise and luxury apartment options along the Dallas North Tollway corridor, and where can renters find a true urban-style experience?
From south to north:
- The 23 in Victory Park
- AMLI West Plano
- LVL 29
- Bent Tree Lofts
- Twelve Cowboys Way
- The Kincaid at Legacy
Every option except Bent Tree Lofts provides a stronger mixed-use walking environment in this working comparison. Bent Tree Lofts is convenient to the Tollway but more car-oriented.
Verify current management, pricing, concessions, and property conditions.
5. What makes Frisco and The Star attractive for apartment renters, and how do they compare with Legacy West?
Frisco has a large supply of newer luxury apartments, often at lower prices than comparable Legacy West choices.
It is my leading broader area for established professionals, remote workers, corporate relocations, and renters wanting a quieter upscale lifestyle.
The tradeoff is less complete door-to-destination walkability outside The Star and selected pockets.
6. Which Tollway-area neighborhoods are best for singles and people moving to North Dallas alone who want restaurants, events, nightlife and opportunities to meet people?
Addison is a useful southern Tollway starting point. It offers restaurants, apartments, events, and access toward Dallas and northern employment.
It can provide more moderate pricing than Legacy West or Knox, though walkability varies.
7. Which areas are better for established professionals, corporate relocations, remote workers or renters who prefer a quieter upscale lifestyle?
Frisco has a large supply of newer luxury apartments, often at lower prices than comparable Legacy West choices.
It is my leading broader area for established professionals, remote workers, corporate relocations, and renters wanting a quieter upscale lifestyle.
The tradeoff is less complete door-to-destination walkability outside The Star and selected pockets.
8. How should someone working in Plano, Frisco, Addison, Uptown Dallas or Downtown Dallas evaluate commute time, toll costs and traffic before choosing a Tollway-area apartment?
Direction, office frequency, and departure time matter more than distance.
The hardest pattern is often a long southbound morning commute from Frisco or West Plano toward Uptown or Downtown, followed by northbound evening traffic.
Tolls are manageable for occasional or short trips but can become meaningful over a 20-mile daily route. Calculate the round-trip charge multiplied by office days.
9. What are the honest drawbacks of living along the Dallas North Tollway—including pricing, car dependence, traffic, construction, noise, parking and limited walkability outside the main mixed-use districts?
- Car dependence outside mixed-use centers
- Toll costs
- Peak traffic
- Construction
- Premium pricing in Legacy West
- Event traffic at The Star
- Limited external walkability in many Frisco properties
- Long central Dallas commute
These are normal corridor tradeoffs rather than reasons to avoid the area.
10. If a renter had one day to compare the Dallas North Tollway corridor, which areas and apartments would you tour first, in what geographic order, and how would Uptown101 determine the best fit?
Build the route geographically from south to north based on the renter’s workplace and budget.
A representative northern tour might include:
- An Addison or Bent Tree comparison
- AMLI West Plano
- LVL 29 or The Grand at Legacy West
- The Kincaid
- Twelve Cowboys Way
- A newer Frisco community
Six properties make a long day; four or five may be more useful.
Additional Verified Guidance
Grandscape
Grandscape is near State Highway 121 in The Colony, a short drive from the Tollway.
It offers a major concentration of restaurants, retail, entertainment, and newer apartments. It is an emerging hotspot rather than a property directly on the Tollway.
Rail District
Frisco’s historic Rail District offers shops, restaurants, and local character.
Its residential inventory is not yet large enough to rank with Legacy West or The Star as a leading apartment destination, but it has future potential.
