Quick answer

Downtown Houston can be a strong choice for a young professional who wants a true high-rise lifestyle, an extremely convenient central-office commute, or close access to sports, entertainment, and major events. It is not as broadly popular with my young-professional clients as Lower Heights, Montrose, or River Oaks. Potential tradeoffs include higher rent, amenity and parking charges, event traffic, noise, and a busy building-dense environment. Conditions also vary by block. Before applying, renters should inspect the precise walking route, garage and building access, lighting, nighttime activity, and complete monthly cost. Downtown is a lifestyle-specific choice rather than the universal Houston default.
