Quick answer
Lower Heights is my strongest Houston recommendation for someone moving alone who wants to meet other young professionals. The area combines substantial newer apartment inventory with Washington Avenue restaurants and nightlife, apartment amenities, and convenient access to Downtown. Greater Heights also attracts young professionals, particularly near West 19th and West 20th Streets, but it is larger, more spread out, and requires more property-specific research. Montrose and River Oaks can provide excellent lifestyles, but they generally offer fewer moderately priced recent-graduate choices and a smaller concentration of recent graduates. Choose the exact apartment based on its resident atmosphere, amenities, walkability, and access to the destinations you will actually use.
